Blog Journal #4

My experience with Twitter is very minimal. I have only ever had an academic Twitter account for my ENC2135 class. I found it to be very unnecessary in my academic needs. The 140 character limit hampered my ability to effectively ask questions and communicate with teachers and peers. However, I did find it to be beneficial in sharing links to videos and articles with my classmates. Twitter will helpful in my future career by providing a way to network with colleagues and communicate with students. The digital divide is the gap between students who have internet access and technology at home versus the students that do not. The digital divide affects success rates of students in technologically advanced classrooms. In my experience, I feel most prepared to teach students ELA technology standards such as, "Use Digital Media", "Integrate and Evaluate", "Evaluate Speaker's Point of View", and "Multimedia:" Informational Text. I demonstrate confidence in these fields through past experience in digital media and evaluating texts. Conversely, I feel as though I will require further instruction in other ELA technology fields such as history, social studies, science, and technology multimedia, as well as information on "Text Structure", and the "Use of Multiple Sources". Although I am confident in my ability to perform well on assignments that incorporate these standards, I do not feel fit to teach them to a classroom of students. My knowledge on subject areas that incorporate  history, social studies, and science, are sparse and my ability to evaluate text structures and sources are mediocre at best. Considering I plan to teach uppercl...

I have used Microsoft Word during various occasions in my educational career. Primarily in intermediate school, I used this software to type out essays, as well as learn the correct ways to format. However, during my high school years I transferred over to using the pages program from Apple. I've seen my teachers use Microsoft Word to create tests, assignments, and to correct my past papers.                     Copyright and fair use of materials has been drilled into my mind since middle school. I was taught the ins and outs of correct citing and referencing to avoid plagiarism and legal trouble. With increased forms of sharing emerging everyday, it is very important for future educators, like myself, to correctly educate students on copyrighted materials in media literacy. For younger children it is important to teach the basics of citation in writing. In my case...

In a world of quickly advancing technology, it is important for educators to learn and implement basic technology education within the classroom. Teachers often find that basic technologies such as the internet, classroom displays, projectors, and mobile devices to be very intriguing and motivating to students. A bored student, is an uninterested student. This leads to behavioral issues and an overall decline in grades. By providing a combination of various learning and cognitive styles with technology to reinforce learning, teachers are providing a better environment for educating. Conclusively, enhanced classroom technologies help aid educators in teaching and help to provide students with a more well rounded education in adversity, critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and competency.              The demand for student educations to now address a broader skill set that includes ...
